Fitness Challenges and Workshops

The YMCA offers a variety of fitness challenges and workshops to help keep you motivated while you strive to meet your fitness goals.

Participating in our fitness challenges will help you create goals, increase accountability, and build relationships with others on this  journey.

Our fitness workshops are designed to help you improve form, technique, or increase performance in specific areas.


FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE. At the Y, no one is denied service due to the inability to pay. Funds for Financial Assistance are provided through the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign. Learn more here!

If you are pre-qualified for Financial Assistance, please note that some of our programs have minimum fees in order to cover costs of materials and supplies. This fee may be higher depending on your amount of assistance.

HYROX

West Boise YMCA & Boise City Aquatics Center

HYROX at the YMCA blends running, and fullbody functional fitness movements. 8 workout stations. Designed for “Every Body”. Participate in station work and modifications to build strength and endurance and simulate race exertion levels.

The 8 HYROX exercises, performed after each 1km run in the race, are: SkiErg (1000m), Sled Push (50m), Sled Pull (50m), Burpee Broad Jumps (80m), Row (1000m), Farmer’s Carry (200m), Sandbag Lunges (100m), and Wall Balls (100 reps), testing endurance and functional strength in a unique fitness competition format.

Intro to Strength Training for Women
Are you ready to feel stronger, more empowered, and confident in the gym? Join our Intro to Strength Training for Women at the Y! This welcoming course is perfect for women of all fitness levels who want to explore strength training and discover the benefits of lifting weights. Strength training is essential for women, as it helps improve bone density, boosts metabolism, and enhances overall physical and mental well-being.

In this 4 session class, participants will gain hands-on experience with various tools such as free weights, machines, and barbells, while learning techniques for key exercises like squats, deadlifts, and presses. You will also have the opportunity to explore different areas of the Y, building confidence in your abilities. Yoga Nidra Workshop

Embrace the opportunity to unwind and tap into the power of your subconscious mind through the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep. Led by Michelle K, this workshop will guide you through a gentle and rejuvenating series of guided meditations and deep relaxation techniques to reduce stress and increase resiliency in the body and mind. 

 

What to Expect:

 

Gentle movement Release trapped energy in the body with gentle, somatic, movements and floor-based yoga postures. Preparing the body for deep rest. Immerse yourself in a state of conscious relaxation as you explore the layers of your consciousness. Experience deep serenity and release tension, allowing your body and mind to enter a state of profound rest. Supreme comfort is key, you’ll be using props and to create the ultimate savasana position.  During the Nidra Session you will be placing your Intention into your subconsciousness to amplify its power.

 

What to Bring:

Comfortable clothing, water. some prefer warm socks.

While mats and props are provided you may prefer your personal yoga mat, blanket, pillow, or eye mask
