Cancer Survivorship
The Oncology Recovery Program is designed to meet the needs of cancer survivors before, during, and/or after treatment in a safe and supportive environment. Research shows that when geared specifically to the patient, exercise is safe for all physical levels of ability. Additionally, it is suggested that interaction with individuals who have similar circumstances may lead to benefits beyond exercise alone. Participants partake in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person and improving their quality of life. By shifting the emphasis away from the disease, participants move beyond cancer in spirit, mind, and body.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE. At the Y, no one is denied service due to the inability to pay. Funds for Financial Assistance are provided through the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign. Learn more here!
A SAFE PLACE FOR ALL. Keep up-to-date with our current Safety Policies.
Artist in Residence Program
Artist in Residence workshops offer a supportive group setting to nurture our creative spirits while discovering and strengthening sometimes hidden artistic talent. Classes are taught by professional artists using high quality materials, focusing on both the art and craft of many art forms to help people access their imagination and creative resources.
These are no-cost creative arts workshops designed to promote a sense of healing and recovery for cancer survivors and people with neurological disorder conditions.
No experience is necessary. All supplies are provided. Space is limited and registration is required.

Oncology Recovery Program
As survival rates for cancer patients have increased, cancer survivorship (we define a cancer survivor from diagnosis on) has grown into its own definition as the last and longest part of the cancer journey. As a survivor, being active has never been so important. Research and ACSM physical activity guidelines for survivor’s shows strong evidence in helping with the symptoms of:
- Cancer-related fatigue
- Health-related quality of life
- Physical function
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Lymphedema
