Boys' Basketball
Y-Ball is an opportunity for youth of all abilities and backgrounds to play recreational basketball in a safe, fun, and nurturing environment. Every player gets equal playtime in Y-Basketball, regardless of their position or individual ability.

AGES/GRADES:
- Boys in grades K-7.
- Girls season will begin in January.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
- Teams are capped at 10 players and fill fast on a first come, first serve basis. We highly encourage early registration to ensure that your player is able to play.
- Player and coach requests are not guaranteed but we will do our best to honor all requests
- Coach requests are honored until a team has 10 players.
- Player requests can be for only one player
- Player requests must have both players request each other.
- For recommendations on which branch/location to register through based on your player’s school, CLICK HERE
- You can still register for any location but please note that your player will likely not be placed with other players from their school and may practice farther away from your neighborhood.
- A late registration fee of $30 will be added to registration fees 5 weeks prior to the start of the program for any divisions that still have space available on teams.
- The Y reserves the right to close registration at any time if teams are full.
- After the late registration date, we will do our best to places players with teammates from their school but players will be placed on a team with space nearest to their school.
- If your desired branch is not available for a certain age group, the teams at that branch are full and are not taking further registrations. You can continue with registration through the available branch(es) and will be placed on a team based out of that branch as close to your home school as possible.
2024 SEASON SCHEDULE INFORMATION:
- Practices will begin the week of October 14th
- Grades Kinder-3rd will practice once per week
- Grades 4th-7th will practice twice per week
- Game dates: October 26th, November 2nd, November 9th, November 16th, December 7th, and December 14th.
- Please note that we make every effort to play games on Saturdays but games may be played on a Thursday or Friday evening depending on staffing and gym availability.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE. At the Y, no one is denied service due to the inability to pay. Funds for Financial Assistance are provided through the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign. Learn more here!
If you are pre-qualified for Financial Assistance, please note that some of our programs have minimum fees in order to cover costs of materials and supplies. This fee may be higher depending on your amount of assistance.

AAU 5th Grade
The TVAAU competitive basketball league offers players the opportunity to compete all while learning the values of sportsmanship, effort, respect, and teamwork with a focus on maintaining healthy lifestyles and relationships. Treasure Valley AAU is committed to providing players with a positive playing experience. Through YMCA leadership, volunteer coaches as positive role models, and parents/families providing positive and continuous support Treasure Valley AAU Basketball is a platform for players to improve their game within a competitive environment and foster a lifelong pursuit of health.
Team Formation
- This year we will be REQUIRING tryouts.
- We are planning on having two main tryouts, one for kids who are in West Ada School District and one for kids in the Boise School District.
- There will additionally be a backup tryout date and location.
- In an effort to make the teams as equal as we can, there will no longer be a player or coach request option, since we are requiring tryouts.
- We will then place kids on Varsity and JV teams according to their school district they are currently in. If you are unable to make your school districts time, please communicate to us and you will be able to attend the other tryouts. If you are unable to make any of the tryout times, you will be placed on a JV team and WON’T be guaranteed a place on a team in your school district.
- TVAAU divisions are formed based on the player’s grade they are in during the current school year.
- Teams are limited to 8 minimum and 10 maximum players.

All coaches are unpaid volunteers who give their time to improve the lives of players and help develop skills in basketball and the art of teamwork and effort. Coaches are subject to a background check and are selected based on past coaching history and experience working with youth. No contact information is released until a background check is complete. Safety is a commitment we make to youth.

- In an effort to make the teams as equal as we can, there will no longer be a player or coach request option, since we are requiring tryouts.
- If you missed the tryouts, you will be placed on a JV team and WON’T be guaranteed a place on a team in your school district.
- TVAAU divisions are formed based on the player’s grade they are in during the current school year.
- Teams are limited to 8 minimum and 10 maximum players.
Games
- All teams play a total of 10 games in the West Ada School District.
- Game schedules will be published by the end of the first week of practice
- We do our best to not have teams play back to back. While this may happen, we try to limit the amount of times for each team.
Practice Information
- YMCA Youth Sports Leadership will work with schools to solidify practice locations, days and times. The volunteer coach of your player’s team will choose from what practice options are available. Practices will be located at a school or Y facility that is nearest where they team is located. In divisions that are smaller, teams may be made from multiple schools, so practices may be a little further from where you are located.
- Teams practice for 1.5 hours, twice a week for a total of 3 hours.
The YMCA does NOT provide coaches for this program. All coaches are volunteers. Coaches are provided resources and training as needed and we are happy to support all coaches in any way possible. In this case we ask that parents of those teams work to identify a coach for the team.
Coaching & Volunteering
All coaches are unpaid volunteers who give their time to improve the lives of players and help develop skills in basketball and the art of teamwork and effort. Coaches are subject to a background check and are selected based on past coaching history and experience working with youth. No contact information is released until a background check is complete. Safety is a commitment we make to youth.
