Team Idaho Track & Field and Cross Country

Team Idaho was started in 1979 to provide a grass-roots opportunity for youth to participate in Track & Field. The first year the club had 15 kids, and today the club has over 600 participants throughout each year!

The goal of Team Idaho is to help participants at all levels improve their specific Track & Field skills, make new friends, and have fun!

We offer programs for Youth Cross Country, Summer Track & Field, and more.

Team Idaho is a USATF Certified Club (club # 7)

 

We offer the following programs:

  1. Youth Run Club – March – May
  2. Summer Track (Youth & Advanced) – June-July
  3. Youth Cross Country – September-October
  4. Youth Indoor Running – December – January
  5. Outdoor Advanced Winter Track – December – February

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE. At the Y, no one is denied service due to the inability to pay. Funds for Financial Assistance are provided through the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign. Learn more here!

If you are pre-qualified for Financial Assistance, please note that some of our programs have minimum fees in order to cover costs of materials and supplies. This fee may be higher depending on your amount of assistance.

Spring Run Club (Youth)

Our NEW Spring Run Club is designed for kids ages 7-12 years old who enjoy running and want to improve their overall athletic ability. Runners will build endurance, coordination, and agility in a supportive environment.

Each practice includes targeted drills, warm-ups, and stretching to develop proper running technique and increase flexibility. Whether your child runs competitively or simply wants to stay active, these skills translate to success across all sports!

 

Practices are Monday/Wednesdays 5:30pm-6:30pm at your choice of one of the following locations:

  • Hobble Creek Park (Behind West Y)
    • 6 spots remaining
  • Camels Back Park (Downtown Boise)
    • 18 spots remaining

 

We will have TWO club meets from 6-7pm:

  1. Monday April 6 @ Hobble Creek Park
  2. Wednesday May 6 @ Camel’s Back Park

 

Race Distances at meets:    

Ages 7-9 will run 1,000m (0.6mi)
Ages 10-12 will run 2,000m (1.2mi)

 

Cost: 

$60 for YMCA Members, $125 for Non-Members

Summer Track & Field (Advanced)

For athletes ages 13-20 who are ready to move beyond the basics, our Advanced group offers a more focused and individualized training experience – prior track and field experience is required! 

This smaller group is ideal for those looking to hone in on specific events, benefit from a lower coach-to-athlete ratio, and take their skills to the next level. Many Advanced athletes also choose to compete in USATF meets, representing Team Idaho at a higher level of competition, although it is not required.

Coaching available for: sprints, hurdles, distance, throws, long/triple jump, and high jump.

PRACTICES: We practice 3x per week, usually in the evening (~7-8:45pm). Practice site and exact times currently TBD.

 

We will have 3 all comer meets this year plus our annual Team Idaho Classic to close out the season. MARK YOUR CALENDARS for June 13, June 27, July 11, and July 18 at TBD, beginning at 8am. More information about how to register & times will be emailed once the season starts.

 

Team Idaho Club is a USATF sanctioned club. Individual membership is required.  

Sign up for your USATF membership  – we are Club #7 in the Snake River Region (Region 54)

 

Optional USATF meets:

  • USATF Snake River Association meet will take place June 19-20 in Boise, ID (site TBD)
    • *required to attend if you want to attend Regionals
  • USATF Regionals take place July 9-11 in Pocatello, ID
    • only open to compete if you attended the Association meet
  • USATF Nationals take place July 20-25 in TBD

Summer Track & Field for Youth ages 5-12

Our seasonal program is designed for athletes ages 5-12, with coaching in sprints, distance, throws, and jumps. Practices are held at four different sites across the valley (Kuna, Downtown Boise, Nampa, and TBD)

Youth practices are held twice a week. These practices are for beginners and intermediate athletes. *For Advanced kids, see below.

We will host the YMCA Middle School Championships on Saturday May 23, plus 3 All Comer meets, and our annual Team Idaho Classic on July 18 to close out the season. Meet location TBD.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the All Comer meets on June 13, June 27, July 11. More information about how to register & times will be emailed to participants when the season starts.

Winter Outdoor Track & Field (Advanced)

Our Advanced Winter Track program consists of flexibility exercises, strength training sessions, form drills, and aerobic exercises designed to prepare participants for their 2026 Outdoor Track and Field seasons!

Our coaching staff is knowledgeable and passionate about track and field. We can help you achieve your goals – whether it is preparing for the high school or junior high/middle school seasons this spring, competing at Regionals and Nationals, or staying conditioned for other sports.

 

Training Includes:

  • Outdoor practices: 3x/week at Centennial High School (M/W/F 4-5:30pm)
  • Indoor session: 1x/week on Saturday mornings (10-11am) at Rock & Armor in Meridian with a Sports Performance Coach (includes weight training, form evaluation, drills, etc)

 

Coaching is available for the following events: sprints, hurdles, distance, and high jump. ****Long/Triple Jump and all Throws are currently pending since we are still in search of coaches for these events! ****

 

Optional Competitions: Team Idaho plans to attend 1-2 indoor meets, including the Simplot Games Feb 19–21, 2026 in Pocatello. These are not required to attend, but are encouraged. *Note that Simplot Games are only eligible for those in 9th-12th grades

 

For athletes ages 12 and up who are ready to move beyond the basics. Prior Track & Field experience is REQUIRED.

 

SESSION DATE OPTIONS:

  1. Full session (12 weeks): Dec 1st- Feb 21
  2. Session 1 (6 weeks): Dec 1st-Jan 10
  3. Session 2 (6 weeks): Jan 12-Feb 21

Be sure to dress for the weather – we practice in sun, rain, & snow!
