Team Idaho Track & Field and Cross Country

Team Idaho was started in 1979 to provide a grass-roots opportunity for youth to participate in Track & Field. The first year the club had 15 kids. Today the club has over 600 participants. The goal of Team Idaho is to help participants at all levels improve their specific Track & Field skills, make new friends, and have fun.

We offer programs for Youth Cross Country, Summer Track & Field, Pole Vault Training and more.

Team Idaho Club is a USATF (club # 7)

Your AGE is your age by Dec 31. Example, if you are 8 but turn 9 in November, you will be in the 9-10 age group for competition.

We offer the following programs:

Summer Track (Youth/Teen/Masters/Advanced): June-July

Youth XC- September-October

Advanced Winter Track- November-February


FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE. At the Y, no one is denied service due to the inability to pay. Funds for Financial Assistance are provided through the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign. Learn more here!

If you are pre-qualified for Financial Assistance, please note that some of our programs have minimum fees in order to cover costs of materials and supplies. This fee may be higher depending on your amount of assistance.

If you love track and field or distance running you will love Winter Track Training! Team Idaho encourages all team members to set goals and achieve them through hard work and dedication regardless of their individual ability. This training program consists of flexibility exercises, strength training sessions, form drills, and aerobic exercises designed to prepare participants for their 2025 Outdoor Track and Field seasons. Drills are designed for various events such as high jump, hurdles, sprinting and other field events. A few benefits of being on the team are having fun, meeting kids from other schools, improving technique and form, staying in shape, and weight training. Team Idaho has some indoor meets to we plan to attend including Simplot Games in Pocatello!

Our coaching staff is knowledgeable and passionate about track and field. We can help you achieve your goals; whether it is working on getting ready for the high school or junior high/middle school seasons this spring or competing at Nationals. We are here to develop your skills in Track and Field no matter what level you are at. Come join our YMCA Team Idaho team!

Practices will be held Tues/Thurs/Sat outside on the track at MERIDIAN HIGH SCHOOL. Be sure to dress for the weather. Ages 11+

Practices will be Tuesday/Thursday 4-5:30PM and Saturday 10-11:30AM

Youth Winter Indoor Running

YMCA Youth Winter Indoor Running 

Join us for the inaugural year of YMCA indoor youth running training at the West YMCA! This program is designed for children ages 6-12 who are interested in staying active and improving their running skills during the winter months.

  • Professional Training: Participants will receive expert coaching to help them develop their running skills. The training is tailored to prepare them for the Team Idaho Summer track programs.
  • Balanced Training Schedule: The program includes two training sessions per week: Monday and Wednesday
    • Gym Day: One day will be dedicated to learning proper techniques on cardio machines. This will help children build endurance, strength, and overall fitness.
    • Track Day: The other day will be spent running on the indoor track, focusing on running form, speed, and agility.
    • Winter Engagement: This program is specifically designed to keep children engaged in track activities during the winter, ensuring they stay active and continue to develop their skills.
  • Skill Development: Children will improve their running techniques, build endurance, and enhance their overall athletic abilities.
  • Physical Fitness: Regular exercise helps maintain a healthy lifestyle, boosts energy levels, and promotes physical well-being.
  • Social Interaction: Participants will have the opportunity to make new friends and be part of a team, fostering social skills and teamwork.
  • Preparation for Summer: By staying active during the winter, children will be better prepared for the Team Idaho Summer track programs, giving them a competitive edge.

MONDAY and WEDNESDAY from 4:30-5:30 at the West YMCA.
