FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE. At the Y, no one is denied service due to the inability to pay. Funds for Financial Assistance are provided through the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign. Learn more here!

ASHI Basic First Aid
The YMCA is offering American Health & Safety Institute (ASHI) Community CPR and First Aid Courses. Basic First Aid participants will learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of injuries and sudden illness. This class teaches crucial information about how to deal with emergencies like bleeding, shock, burns, strains, fractures, allergic reactions, diabetic emergencies, and seizures. This class is a blended class with online elearnings required prior to attending class.
This class consists of a combination of e-learning to be completed before the in-person date and in-person skills training.

Child and Babysitting Safety
This one day course offers a babysitting certification. Participants will learn how to choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games, prevent injuries, be prepared if an emergency happens in their care, handle bed time issues, and more!

YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant
This course is designed to train and certify individuals in the knowledge and skills necessary to help prevent and recognize aquatic risks to assist and alert a lifeguard in the emergency response to an accident or injury. Participants will also be certified in American Safety and Health Institute’s (ASHI) course: Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid for the Community, and Emergency Oxygen Administration upon successful completion of this course. This course does not provide participants with lifeguard certification & training.
This course will include up to 8 hours of e-learning that needs to be completed before the start date of the class, and will also consist of pool and classroom portions.
To complete this class you must be able to complete the following prerequisites:
Phase 1:
- Tread water for 2 minutes with no hands
- Swim 100 yards of front crawl
Phase 2:
Participants will start in the water at the shallow end and perform the following:
- Sprint for approximately 60 feet and then perform an arm-over-arm surface dive in 4 to 6 feet of water (or maximum depth of training facility)
- Pick up an object (diving ring) from the bottom of the pool, surface, and tread water for at least 1 minute with legs only, then replace the object back on the bottom of the pool where it was found.
- Surface and swim the remaining length to the end of the pool and hoist yourself out of the water without using a ladder or other assistance.
- Immediate begin compressions on an adult manikin for 1 minute or 100 compressions, stand listen to instructions from instructor.

YMCA Lifeguard Crossover
This course is for current lifeguards from other certification agencies (Ellis, Red Cross, others) wanting to become certified as a YMCA Lifeguard. (certification must be current, please check for other qualifying agencies)
Course is designed to provide the participants with the knowledge and skills needed to be a lifeguard and professional rescuer. Participants will be certified in Basic Life Support, Basic First Aid for the Community and Emergency Oxygen Administration. The leadership competencies this course meets for the Leader Level are: Inclusion, Influence, Communication, Decision Making, and Emotional Maturity.
This course will include up to 8 hours of e-learning that needs to be completed before the start date of the class, and will also consist of pool and classroom portions.
To complete this class you must be able to complete the following prerequisites:
Phase 1:
- Tread water for 2 minutes with no hands
- Swim 100 yards of front crawl
Phase 2:
Swim 50 yards of each of the following:
- Front crawl with the head up
- Sidestroke
- Breaststroke
- Breaststroke with the head up
- Elementary backstroke kick (breaststroke kick on the back) with hands on the chest
- Perform a feet first surface time in 8 to 10 feet of water (or maximum depth of training facility), then swim underwater for 15 feet
Phase 3:
Participants will start in the water at the shallow end and perform the following:
- Sprint for approximately 60 feet and then perform an arm-over-arm surface dive in 8 to 10 feet of water (or maximum depth of training facility)
- Pick up an object (diving ring) from the bottom of the pool, surface, and tread water for at least 1 minute with legs only, then replace the object back on the bottom of the pool where it was found.
- Surface and swim the remaining length to the end of the pool and hoist yourself out of the water without using a ladder or other assistance.
- Immediate begin compressions on an adult manikin for 1 minute or 100 compressions, stand listen to instructions from instructor.
June Lifeguard Crossover: 15th-18th Weekdays 4-9PM, Saturdays 8AM-4PM, Sundays 10AM-5PM

YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor
This course trains instructor candidates to teach YMCA Swim Lessons. It also provides certification in CPR, AED, First-Aid and oxygen administration. Attendance is mandatory at all sessions for certification. There will be some e-learning that must be completed before the first day of the class, it can take up to 5 hours to complete.
